The big idea

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers collecting is organized by product lines (5.5″ figures, 8″ figures, Auto-Morphin, Evil Space Aliens, Zords, Movie Edition, Ninja) and by item numbers and shipping case numbers. It is not a Kenner-style cardback letter system.

One catalog row equals one product collectors treat as its own piece. Regional packaging matters: the same character can exist as a US card and an EU card, and those are different looks even when the plastic is similar.

Browse the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers catalog with that in mind, focusing on the Mighty Morphin years.

How the line is organized

Bandai launched the US MMPR line with the TV show and kept adding assortments through the mid-1990s. A simple year map:

PeriodWhat you mainly see
1993Launch wave: 5.5″ Rangers, Evil Space Aliens, early Zords / Megazord, role-play basics.
1994Expansion: Auto-Morphin, Collectible Figures, Action Feature Aliens, Thunder Bikes, Thunderzords, more deluxe Zords.
1995Movie Edition, Ninja Rangers, 8″ figures, Shark Cycles, Micro Morphin playsets, later Megazords and Falconzords.
1996Late MMPR and Alien Rangers-era product still on shelves: remaining Ninja / Movie assortments and last Bandai MMPR waves before the line moves on.

In ToyVault, those assortments usually sit in the Series field. Common families include:

  • 5.5″ Power Rangers, Action Ninja Rangers, and Movie Edition figure waves
  • 8″ Power Rangers, Talking Rangers, and 8″ Evil Space Aliens
  • Auto-Morphin and Auto Morphin Series 2
  • Evil Space Aliens, Deluxe / New Deluxe aliens, and Action Feature Aliens
  • Collectible Figures and later 3″ collectibles series
  • Vehicles and cycles: Battle Bikes, Thunder Bikes, Revvin’ Thunder Bikes, Shark Cycles
  • Zords and Megazords (Deluxe and non-Deluxe), Falconzords, Micro Morphin playsets
  • Role-play items and retailer Power Packs (Toys R Us, Target)

US vs EU packaging

For carded figures and many boxes, the fastest tell is the logo on the front.

The logo test (main rule)

  • US: the packaging logo includes Mighty Morphin — you read Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
  • EU: the packaging logo is Power Rangers only. “Mighty Morphin” is never on the EU logo.

That difference is usually enough on a blister or box front. Use it before you argue about card art details or language.

Typical marketUnited StatesEurope (Bandai EU / local distribution)
On ToyVaultRelease region US (when set)Release region EU, or a specific country when known

Secondary checks (useful when the logo is hard to see in a photo):

  • Language on the blister, bubble stickers, or instructions: English-only US packaging versus multilingual EU packaging.
  • Distributor address, legal line, or barcode style when visible on the card or box.
  • Same character name can exist in both regions. Treat US and EU packages as separate collector looks even when the figure looks similar out of package.

Quick walkthroughs

  • Carded Red Ranger with Mighty Morphin in the logo → US.
  • Same-era Red Ranger with a Power Rangers logo only → EU.
  • Boxed Zord or Megazord: apply the same logo rule on the box front.

What each catalog field means

FieldIn plain terms
NameWho or what the toy is (Ranger, alien, Zord, vehicle), including edition labels such as Movie Edition when they are part of the product name.
ManufacturerWho put it on the market. For this line that is Bandai.
SeriesThe product family: 5.5″ Power Rangers, Auto-Morphin, Evil Space Aliens, Shark Cycles, and so on.
Item #The Bandai article number printed on the blister or box (for example 2201, 2421).
Shipping Case #The assortment / case the item shipped in. Several toys can share one case number.
VariantOnly when collectors treat a packaging or deco difference as its own piece (color, card art, exclusive pack).
CategoryAction Figure, Zord, Vehicle, Role-play, Collectible Figure, and similar.
Release regionWhere that package was sold. Use this for US vs EU once you have identified the packaging.
Release dateYear or more precise date when known (1993–1996 for Mighty Morphin).
Package formatCard for blistered figures; Box for Zords, Megazords, and other boxed product when set.

Carded figures vs boxed Zords

Most Rangers and aliens shipped on blister cards. Zords, Megazords, and many vehicles shipped in boxes. That changes how collectors talk about condition:

  • Loose: out of package. For carded figures that means figure (and accessories) without the card. For Zords it means out of the box.
  • Boxed / Opened: opened but still with the box. Shown for box-format catalog items, not for ordinary carded figures.
  • New / Sealed: factory sealed blister or sealed box.

When you compare market values on ToyVault, match the condition to the package type. A sealed Megazord box and a sealed 5.5″ card are both “New / Sealed,” but they are different kinds of product.

Shipping cases

Bandai shipped many assortments in numbered wholesale cases. The Shipping Case # on a catalog row is that assortment identifier. It is shared: every item in the same case family reuses the same number within a sub-theme. It is not a unique ID for one toy.

Examples from the Mighty Morphin catalog:

Case #Typical series
2200 / 2201Early 5.5″ Rangers and related launch assortments
2210Evil Space Aliens
2300Collectible Figures
2310Auto-Morphin Power Ranger
2320Action Feature Aliens
24205.5″ Power Rangers (including Movie Edition)
24705.5″ Action Ninja Rangers
2480Shark Cycles

Case numbers help when you are looking at sealed lots, case photos, or “which assortment is this card from?” They do not replace Item # when you are identifying a single figure.

How to read a ToyVault row

What you openHow to read it
Jason Red Ranger · Bandai · Series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers · Item 2200 · Case 2200 · 1993Early launch carded Ranger. Check the logo for US (Mighty Morphin) vs EU (Power Rangers only), then set Release region.
Goldar · Evil Space Aliens · Item 2210 · Case 2210Classic alien assortment. Series names the family; case groups the shipping mix.
Auto Morphin Red Ranger · Auto Morphin Series 2 · Item 2441 · Case 2440Later Auto-Morphin wave. Series + item number identify the product; logo still tells US vs EU.
Red Ranger [Movie Edition] · 5.5″ Power Rangers · Item 2421 · Case 2420 · 1995Movie Edition figure inside the 5.5″ family. The edition label is part of the product name.
Deluxe Megazord · Item 2260 · boxedBoxed Zord product. Use box-front logo for region; Loose / Boxed-Opened / Sealed follow box rules, not blister rules.
Two Red Ranger cards: one logo with Mighty Morphin, one withoutSame character, two regional packages. Catalog them as separate looks with Release region US vs EU.

Practical habit: read Series and Item # to know which product you have, then read the packaging logo to place US or EU. Shipping Case # is the assortment context; Variant is only for true collector splits.
